One Nation Under God: Toward Race Reconciliation

Today's Scripture
"Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other; loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose." Philippians 2:2 NLT

Thoughts for Today
Denominationalism breeds a kind of prejudice among Christians that can damage our effectiveness in fulfilling Jesus' great commission to make disciples of all nations.

When people of different denominations fail to love and understand one another, our witness to the world is greatly marred. Jesus said they will know we are Christians by our love. When we bicker about methods and traditions, we are not demonstrating love.

People from every Christian denomination should focus on the indisputable basics of the gospel and reach out as the people of God, united in purpose and love. Instead, we tend to focus on theological disagreements, judging each other by our denominational affiliation.

Consider this
As believers, let us respect one another's perspectives and learn from one other. Let us not think that our way and our denomination are superior. Let us band together as a team, taking the love of Jesus to a lost and hurting world.

Prayer
Father, forgive us for sometimes putting our own agendas, our own traditions and our own opinions above doing what you've called us to domake disciples of all nations. Help us to put differences aside and focus on your plan. Help us to agree wholeheartedly with each other, love one another and work together with one mind and purpose. In Jesus' name

One Nation Under God: Toward Race Reconciliation
by Donna Saunders, Ph.D. and Jean Leak, MS, RN. This study discusses barriers between people and shows how to make Christ visible through love in action. This guide also offers the way to strengthen and bond relationships. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups, and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals or couples.
