Today's Scripture

"But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image." (2 Corinthians 3:16-18 NLT)

Thoughts for Today

By accepting our identity in Christ, we are able to remove the masks. We can begin to overcome setbacks, disappointments, and other issues that may have arrested our growth in him.

Next, we must trust Christ to help us apply the time proven biblical principles of living our life in freedom through him. Growing in him is a day-by-day process. We may respond in fear or anger or pride to circumstances that arise. When that happens, we can be tempted to pull out the mask and hide behind it again. Instead, we must learn to respond by turning to Jesus and asking for help. Trusting him instead of trying to protect ourselves.

Consider this …

Psalm 8 describes the majesty of our Lord and how he is mindful of us. He comes to us and cares for us.

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—the moon and the stars you set in place—what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. (Psalm 8:3-5 NLT)

God loves you so much he crowned you with glory and honor. Not because of anything you did or didn't do but because of what Jesus did. Take off your mask . . . and keep your eyes on Jesus so you won't be tempted to put it back on. Trust him. Only then can you walk in freedom and become all he has equipped you to be.

Prayer

Father, I know that even though I don't deserve it, you love me unconditionally . . . and I am special because of that love. Help me to walk in faith, day by day, trusting in Jesus no matter what comes my way. In his name . . .

These thoughts were drawn from …

Free to Grow: Overcoming Setbacks and Disappointments
by Jimmy Ray Lee, D.Min. The purpose of this group study is to help people overcome disappointments and setbacks that have arrested or are presently hindering their emotional and spiritual development. The group study will help participants understand how to be set free so that they can grow and become all that God has designed them to be. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals or couples.

We hope these devotions are a blessing to you and to others in your life. We are happy to provide them for you at no cost, but thought you might want to consider a donation to help our ministry with the expense involved. You can safely donate through our website . Thank you!
