Today's Scripture

"Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." (Galatians 5:25 NIV)

Thoughts for Today

To grow in freedom, we need to walk with Christ daily. God wants us to be led by the Spirit of God and deny sinful desires.
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16 NIV)
Developing freedom in Christ calls for us to cooperate with the Holy Spirit. In today's scripture, Paul tells us to "keep in step with the Spirit."
Picture a precision marching band. Now relate that to the various areas of your life. What areas are in step with the Spirit? And what areas are not?

Consider this …

We all hit snags and get out of step. We cling to emotional baggage. We neglect our prayer life. Perhaps we develop a habit or relationship we know is not pleasing to God.

Have you ever watched a precision band and suddenly one of the marchers fell out of step with the others? You spotted the misstep immediately, didn't you? Others see when you misstep in life. Friends who love you and care about you. And especially Jesus, who loves you unconditionally and wants the best for you.

James told us what to do when we get out of step.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16 NIV)
Confess your sins to Jesus. And confess your sins to a caring friend who will pray for you.

Prayer

Father, I know I am out of step in this area of my life. Please forgive me. Help me keep in step with the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name . . .

Free to Grow: Overcoming Setbacks and Disappointments by Jimmy Ray Lee, D.Min. The purpose of this group study is to help people overcome disappointments and setbacks that have arrested or are presently hindering their emotional and spiritual development. The group study will help participants understand how to be set free so that they can grow and become all that God has designed them to be. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals or couples.

We hope these devotions are a blessing to you and to others in your life. We are happy to provide them for you at no cost, but thought you might want to consider a donation to help our ministry with the expense involved. You can safely donate through our website. Thank you!
